Barcelona is
the second largest city in Spain and is also the capital
of Catalonia. Barri Gσtic, the old town district known as
the Gothic Quarter, occupies what was formerly an ancient
fortified Roman village. It is the site of historic Gothic
monuments and modern institutions and it is here that you
can visit the cathedral with its interesting cloisters and
three medieval palaces.
Barcelona
houses several museums the most notable of which is Museu
Picasso. This contains the most important collection of
paintings, drawings and sketches from his early years.
A visit to
the Antoni Gaudi collection at Casa Museu Gaudi is also
recommended. Gόell park, designed by Antonio Gaudν is the
most famous park in Barcelona and has been declared a
World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Barcelona is a magnificent and exciting city. The centre
of Catalan culture, it has a modern, cosmopolitan feel and
a strong, proud past. Away from the bars and restaurants
of the Ramblas, you will discover the shade of Place Real,
the stunning twists and curves of Guidi's cathedral and
the imaginative dream of his park. You will enjoy visiting
all these as you walk among the exuberant and warm locals.
You will be well placed to stroll down to the sea and walk
along by its calming waves.
