Local
Attractions
|
Oxford is one of England's principle
academic cities and is dominated by the numerous colleges that go to
make up the university. Many of the colleges were founded between
the 13th and 16th centuries and feature wonderful courtyards and
fine gardens. Most colleges are open to the public and can be
visited during the afternoon. If you only have time to see one,
Christ Church is not to be missed. Oxford is also home to one of the
country's best museums, the Ashmolean that has a fine collection of
paintings dating from the 16th to 20th centuries. Other museums
worth a visit include the Museum of Oxford, the University Museum
and the Pitt Rivers Museum. No trip to the city would be complete
without a visit to the Sheldonian Theatre, Martyrs Memorial, Bridge
of Sighs and the Botanic Garden.
